1.1 WHAT IS ITSOS?

In The Shadow of Stars is a savage, GM-less TTRPG toolkit designed for solo and cooperative play. You are a Seeker, traversing a geography fractured by the Demon of Discord. The world is sentient, hostile, and ever-shifting. Play is facilitated not by a Game Master, but by the Monolith and the procedural tables within this Digital Rulebook.

A NOTE FROM THE CREATOR

A persistent yearning for creation has been a driving force in my life for as long as I can remember. Ideas would ignite like sparks, consuming me, blurring days and nights into a haze of daydreams.

In The Shadow of Stars isn’t the first time I”ve tried to breathe life to a world of my own, but it does mark a significant milestone for me personally. In creating this game, I came to regard it as an extension of myself. It reveals my strengths and weaknesses, my fears and desires, ultimately exploring every hidden corner of my heart and mind.

I have spent many sleepless nights pondering Solis’ world. It has haunted me for as long as I can remember. Now, I can only hope for it to haunt you too.

INSPIRATION

Creating something new is a deeply personal journey, and ITSOS is certainly that for me. The design of this game draws upon a variety of sources that have resonated with me over the years. My aim was to craft an immersive experience where players’ strategic decisions and personal choices hold significant weight, shaping the narrative and influencing the world.

1.2 THE EVER-SHIFTING RULES (System Warning)

ITSOS is currently in PRE-ALPHA. Much like the Labyrinth the Seekers travel, the rules, thoughts, and ideas presented here are ever-shifting. This instability is a direct result of the active development and refinement of the core engine.

The Labyrinth is not just a setting; it is the Engine itself. It reacts to your presence, scaling its hostility to your proximity to the core fracture and your own internal Corruption. Do not expect static balance. Expect a world that is actively trying to consume you.
